Pilates Fitness & TRX Suspension For Functional Cross Training

Yes, we can all throw heavy weights around quite easily. Who among us has not enjoyed using the leg press to tone and strengthen the quads, glutes and hamstrings. Or, for that matter, the use of dumbbells to add extra resistance to lunges and squats. Pilates instructors, Yoga teachers and personal trainers, however, are now expressing a new love for cross training, in their respective disciplines, with the use of TRX Suspension straps. In my opinion, there maybe no need for weights anymore!

It's not that I have ended my love affair or desire to use weights, it's just that over the years my use of functional training equipment and cross training with tools such as BOSU Balance Trainer, resistance bands, stability balls, Pilates equipment/apparatus and now the TRX Suspension system, has grown so much more that many clients actually prefer to work and move their bodies outside of the traditional gym environment, without the use of weights.

The TRX System was developed by a U.S. Navy SEAL as a revolutionary method of leveraged bodyweight exercise allowing one to perform hundreds of exercises that build power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and prevent injuries, at an intensity level chosen by the user. While it may not be new to gym rats or personal trainers, it is a unique tool for Pilates studio owners and teachers. However, its core-based total-body resistance, functional training is so very complimentary to the healing movements that Joseph Pilates had in mind when he created the method of training that bears his name.

All functional training allows one to move easily with the equipment, maximizing the body and mind's training and minimizing the injury to joints and overworked muscles. Functional training involves (body)weight-bearing activities targeted at the core muscles of the abdomen and back. Rather than isolating a single muscle, which may not necessarily bear any relationship to the movements people make in their regular activities or sports; functional training attempts to adapt or develop exercises which allow individuals to perform these activities of daily life more easily and without injuries.

It is for this reason that the fusion of Pilates with the TRX Suspension straps in a Pilates fitness workout for total body movement training can be so powerful. I believe that functional, cross-training, particularly with the TRX Suspension equipment and Pilates-based movements, can lead to better muscular balance and joint stability, possibly decreasing the number of injuries sustained in an individual's performance in a sport. This is due to the fact that the training emphasizes the body's natural ability to move in three anatomical planes of motion.

For many, the introduction to the TRX Suspension straps, in a Pilates Movement Boot-Camp class, may appear a little daunting, uncomfortable, and unmanageable, at first. However, after using them for a couple of workouts, most begin to notice change and difference in the body. The use of the straps adds finite resistance to every exercise and most people report immediately "feeling the burn" with each progressive move and exercise with the straps. The resultant glee of the participants who have accomplished a core-based movement - with some portion of their body suspended in space - can only be appreciated when it is witnessed in person.

While stationary equipment/machines can sometimes be safer to use, they restrict movements to a single plane of motion, which is an unnatural form of movement for the body and may potentially lead to faulty movement patterns or injury. When stationary equipment is essential however, students can be moved to the floor or the Pilates Reformer to begin safe movement exercises. As strength and core connections are attained, additional planes of motion and movement are safely added into the exercise regimen and program.

Many people erroneously equate strength training with bodybuilding. Further, many assume that Pilates is for "women only." Additionally, many individuals, male or female, that are involved in endurance or flexibility-based sports (tennis, golf, basketball, football, skiing) may not use traditional forms of strength training for fear of gaining too much bulk and losing flexibility.

This is why Pilates and pilates-based movements that utilize functional training equipment, such as the TRX Suspension Straps, are a perfect choice for creating adaptive training workouts that build strength and flexibility and make returning to one's sport of choice a joy. For example, globe-trotting golfers, be they male or female, have expressed positive experiences with TRX Suspension functional training. The straps can be used in tandem with other Pilates and traditional strength training equipment as an essential component of all core workouts; helping to create length with strength as they facilitate an improvement in focus, core control and thus performance on the golf course. Work with the straps is reported by many to simultaneously increase strength, balance, and flexibility and giving one the ability to complete that requisite "drive with power and control."

Summary

Pilates and traditional strength training both benefit from the added challenge a little suspension provides by moving the body with core-based, fitness training.

While traditional weights and strength training will remain key to body weight management with most clients,
I am so thrilled with the use of the TRX Suspension straps during all variety of training sessions; a) indoor general strength training, b)outdoor Boot Camp sessions, and c) Pilates studio sessions. A challenging protocol replacement for those seeking a break from the norm.

Why the TRX Suspension Training is a Compliment to a Pilates Workout

Traditional Pilates studios have various pieces of Pilates equipment. Almost always you will find a reformer, cadillac, foot chair, mats, rings and possibly a ladder barrel, tower, pedi-pull and spine corrector. These are the mainstays of any Pilates studio. But these days, you might see some new equipment making their way into a studio and the TRX is one of them.

Suspension training is all the rage. Created for training military personnel in the field, it requires very little space, is not expensive and delivers a workout unlike any other. In this day of core strengthening workouts, TRX suspension training stands supreme.

The TRX looks like two straps hanging from the ceiling. Attachment is easy since the TRX can be suspended from just about anything like a door frame or from a tree in the park. The client holds their own body weight against the movement of the straps. They perform various exercises like rows, squats, planks and pikes. The core work comes in the trying to stabilize the two straps. Think men's gymnastics rings. It's the same idea of work. TRX works abs, back, shoulders, arms and lower body. In other words, it's a total body workout.

So why do I think it is a perfect match for Pilates? For all those very reasons. The similarities between the two workouts are many including working the whole body, not it's parts, balance, developing core strength and the ability to know where your body is in space. TRX suspension training is a perfect compliment to any Pilates workout.

But not every Pilates practitioner would agree. Pilates purists would find it unnecessary to add in anything extra to their already challenging Pilates workout. But I believe strongly that Joseph Pilates would have embraced it. He was innovative, clever, and progressive. Chances are he would have invented suspension training all on his own had he lived long enough.

Times change. Needs change. The need to continue to progress and learn new ways of moving and working our bodies is imperative for our constant improvement. Adding in suspension training into your Pilates workouts enhances what you are already doing. It does not replace it. Merely makes it better.

So don't miss out on a chance to improve skill and strength. TRX suspension training is a new and important addition to any workout, but I guarantee that you will see it popping up in gyms, health clubs and yes, Pilates studios. And we'll all be better off for it.

TRX Suspension Trainer Review – Is It Worth the Money?

For anybody who is contemplating checking out or interested in a TRX suspension trainer review, then you'll want to take a minute to go through every single word in this review.

In this article, you will uncover why suspension work outs are likely to be the strategy to start one's entire body growing. Even though you have not gone through a bodybuilding plateau this type of training can help you avoid one.

Let's be practical; the most important challenge with physical exercise is the fact that they are usually repetitious and extremely monotonous.

However, it is the repeating of the training regularly which makes the muscles develop. Even so, the workouts are merely suspension exercise that many people consider a very exciting fitness phenomenon.

This type of work out can help you add variety to your exercise program. Furthermore, because of the fact that utilizes "circuit training" as one of its training protocols it can also assist you in melting away body fat without having to spend endless hours performing cardiovascular exercise.

One of the main advantages of this type of training is that allows you to target several of the larger muscle groups simultaneously. As a result, you don't need to spend as much time working out with the TRX suspension system as you would with free weights or other types of exercise equipment.

Now, let's get into more detail about the creation of this product in this TRX suspension trainer review.

The product itself was created by Randy Hetrick. A former Navy seal that along with many of his comrades found it very difficult to exercise while deployed in the field. Whenever they attempted to workout they faced many different challenges. The biggest challenge was that they did not have a great deal of exercise equipment and of course, there always wasn't a great deal of room to workout.

Perhaps you can imagine how difficult it must be to try to exercise on board a ship or a submarine. On the other hand, lugging around a Smith machine, Total Gym or even a Bowflex just doesn't work. Consequently, they all put their heads together and created an exercise device that was made from the webbing of their parachutes. This allowed them to perform bodyweight exercises, at many different angles. This permitted them to stay in shape and develop their core muscles.

However, if you're not that familiar with the TRX suspension workout, let me tell you that it's essentially a workout device that uses your body's weight as the resistance. There's no need for plates, resistance bands, or power rods.

Since its initial creation it has been continuously improved upon.

Today, the suspension cords have grips attached to make it easier to workout. Furthermore, they are designed so that you can easily attach them to a wall, fence or even a tree. Currently there are hundreds of different workout routines that you can employ with the TRX training program. Many of the brand name gyms offer TRX training to their members. It has become that popular because it does create results.

Keep some of these tips in mind as you continue to uncover additional TRX suspension trainer reviews.

TRX Workout Routine – Benefits Of Suspension Training Exercises

Have you heard about the TRX workout routine?

In this article, we will discuss the benefits of using suspension training exercises to achieve your bodybuilding goals.

The way I found out about the TRX suspension trainer was at my local New York sports club. They were holding a group exercise class using the suspension straps. I was not able to participate in class because you had to sign up ahead of time. However, I stood there mesmerized as I watched personal trainer walk the class participants through the core exercises.

Later on when the class was over, I grabbed the personal trainer and asked if he would be so kind as to show me one particular exercise that seems very interesting to me. Well I never would have believed it but the few minutes that he spent show me what to do in that TRX workout routine had me convinced.

The very next day I went ahead and ordered the suspension trainer Pro edition.

The essence of the exercise program is that it utilizes bodyweight movements however; unlike traditional bodyweight exercises, this workout completely targets the core muscles and stabilizers.

It is no wonder that so many men and women have purchased suspension straps systems for their at home workouts.

In case you are not familiar with suspension training, as mentioned earlier, it utilizes the weight of your body as its only source of "resistance." However, because your body is "suspended" it forces your core and stabilizer muscles to work even harder than any free weight, or bodyweight exercise ever could.

The only thing that could come close to this type of exercise movement would be working out on a stabilizer ball, using a cable machine, or utilizing resistance bands.

The company that promotes the suspension training system Is called "Fitness Anywhere."

Because of their successful marketing and the fact that the product works many physical therapists, martial artists, golf professionals, and personal trainers are using and promoting the TRX workout routine.

TRX Suspension Trainer Review – Is TRX Really For You?

I don't often succumb to buying exercise equipment, but when I first saw a video on YouTube about the TRX Suspension Trainer I just knew this one was for me.

I did my research and then promptly ordered. Four days later I had my TRX in my hands.

So it's been about 8 months since I've got it and I decided to write a TRX Suspension Trainer Review to perhaps help anyone who's currently thinking of getting one and may need some help deciding.

The TRX is a piece of exercise equipment developed by the guys at Fitness Anywhere. It's been developed so it's compact, it's sturdy and multi-functional. And it IS all that. And more...

It is very well made. Plus you can do over 300 exercise and exercise combination on it.

For me it is the best exercise equipment I've ever bought, because it provides so much variety to my workouts. I do 4-5 workouts a week - every week. And have done so for over 15 years. So I need variety or I get demotivated.

But with the TRX Suspension Trainer I can vary the individual exercises and the entire workouts.

The TRX guys actually produce a lot of YouTube videos - so you'll never be stuck for a "how to" on a certain exercise. Plus, you can get whole workouts from their website. Arguably at an extra cost - but as with all other exercise videos you can use them over and over - so the cost is ok.

The TRX Suspension Trainer comes in a few different packages. I bought the bottom of the range - the TRX Pro Pack. It comes with the door anchor, and with instructional video and a basic workout. For me this is enough, because I'll use it at home (on the door frame:o) and I like to create my own workouts.

But for you it may be that you get the basic pack and just supplement it with an extra workout video from time to time.

If you have the desire and time - you can create your own workouts by going to YouTube and watching the TRX videos on offer there. It's entirely up to you. The beauty of this equipment is that it is so versatile - you'll never run out of variation.

The other neat feature is that it only weighs 2 lbs and packs quickly and neatly into its little pouch - so you can take it anywhere. You can take it on business trips. No worries if your hotel has no gym - all you need is a door frame. Or you can take it to the gym. You can use one of their ceiling anchors, or one of the sturdier machines.

If you want to read a much more comprehensive review before you make a decision - like who the TRX is for and who it isn't for.

Get Fit on the Go With TRX Suspension Trainer

Statistics have shown that more than half of U.S. residents suffer from metabolism-related illness due to lack of activity and unhealthy diet. In this fast-paced, competitive world, many of us simply do not have the time to go to gym. If you constantly feel exhausted at the end of your working days, have difficulty to sleep well at night, or want to have a healthy and toned body for summer, then you need to get fit fast. If you do not have the time, energy or money for expensive gym membership, a portable, lightweight, durable, easy to install and versatile fitness device would suit your fitness goal best.

One of the few fitness devices that could fit in those descriptions is the TRX Suspension Trainer. Designed by a U.S. Navy SEAL, R. Hetrick and his SEAL teammates, the history of TRX Suspension Trainer can be traced back to a training harness created from parachute webbing that was hand-stitched together by boat repair tools, which was used by Hetrick and his teammates to stay in peak physical condition regardless of their mission locations. From that simple parachute webbing and boat repair tool, the Navy SEAL guys began to develop new exercises and develop the harness to become the complete field-training TRX Suspension fitness device, as we know today.

The TRX Suspension Trainer consists of sturdy nylon straps, a modular anchoring interface that can be attached to any elevated fixture. It creates resistance from your body weight and gravity so you do not need to worry about resistance and fitness buddy. Since you are the one who is in control, you can safely practice hundreds of exercises that would build balance, flexibility, power, strength, and mobility, at your own fitness skills, power and pace. There are integrated foot cradle for ground-based exercise and club-grade, which would work best for pull-ups and other exercises that train the upper body. Furthermore, the TRX Suspension Trainer's degree of difficulty can be adjusted (from 5 to 100 percent of your body weight) so that you can increase training level gradually.

Bring your TRX Suspension Trainer when you are on a holiday, in a hotel, in the backyard, when you get home from work or when you are alone at home. Install TRX modular anchoring interface to a tree branch, door or other elevated surface and start building your muscles and achieving your fitness goals. You can purchase the TRX Pro Pack that comes with Basic Training DVD workout and in-box workouts (the TRX Endurance Circuit and TRX Metabolic Blast), plus a 35-page workout guide to help you get the most of your workout. Or you can purchase the TRX Suspension Trainer Professional that includes All-Body Xpress, Vol. 1 DVD offering multiple cardiovascular and all-major muscle group spot-training exercises. The DVD also includes bonus warm-up routine, expert advices and tips and techniques, and a complete, waterproof fold-out usage and setup guide. TRX Trainer Review

In this TRX Trainer review I want to present to you the real facts about the product so you can decide for yourself if it's worth your investment. The TRX Suspension Trainer was created by a Navy SEAL named Randy Hetrick and he first discovered the idea when he needed a piece of portable fitness equipment to use while travelling. Eventually the creator of the TRX decided he was on to something and would go on to make his portable fitness equipment to the world.

One of the main benefits of the TRX trainer is the fact that you can take it pretty much anywhere. They really try to market the TRX as a gym in a bag that you can just throw in your backpack and get your workout in wherever you go. When I was doing research for this TRX trainer review I realized that it only weighed a couple pounds and when I went travelling it easily fit into the corner of my suitcase. I also tried out the doorway accessory, which works rather well, but I still prefer to anchor the TRX to something sturdier than a door.

I was also fairly impressed with the quality of the fitness product as the whole thing was made up of durable straps, handles, footholds and an anchoring system. It's such a simple system that works so well, and I've recently begun seeing more and more companies come up with their own cheap imitations of the TRX suspension trainer but none of them seem to function nearly as well or be made of such high quality.

The amount of exercises you can do on the TRX trainer is really unlimited and the best part is you can easily make the exercise more difficult just by changing the location of your body in relation to the anchoring. It's a great way of using your own bodyweight as a tool to get in a great workout pretty much wherever you are. Some of the exercises I did in preparation for this review of the TRX trainer were atomic push-ups, low rows, 1-legged burpees and rollouts.

I've used the TRX trainer with many of my clients who are trying to rapidly lose fat because with it I'm able to get more muscle recruitment than I would if they were training on machines or even free weights. The only negative part of the TRX trainer that I have to mention in this review is that it's not on the cheap side. You're looking to investment almost a couple hundred dollars for the TRX suspension trainer and if that's too much for you then you're better off sticking to free weights. But if you're looking to elevate your fitness level and lose some fat at the same time wherever you go then the TRX trainer is going to be the answer.

For more information on his TRX trainer review be sure to check out his rapid fat loss blog. Remember to check this review of the TRX suspension trainer before you decide to invest in your next piece of fitness equipment.

The TRX Suspension System – Make Your Body Spring Into Life!

In my endless, often fruitless quest for exercise equipment that will really work for anybody who uses it regularly, I don't usually find stuff that I really like!  So it was truly refreshing to come across the TRX exercise system - a deceptively simple piece of equipment consisting  of two heavy duty elastic straps with length adjustments and padded handles that comes complete with a kit that means you can fit it to a beam in your living room or a door frame or a wall bar. The whole system only weighs 2lbs.  You may not think this sounds very exciting, but it's really amazing what you can do with this thing, whether you are a first-timer or a seasoned exerciser.

The TRX Suspension System was originally designed for the training of super-fit Navy Seals, but is equally suitable for any of us ordinary mortals.  As a personal trainer I am delighted by its potential, as I mainly train "ordinary" people - who often have back problems, knee injuries and limited range of movement.  The TRX fitness system provides as much resistance as required for straightforward exercises such as rowing, and as it works the body in a practical manner using all the stability and core muscles, the exercises can be made just as challenging as you want them to be!

Just thinking about the potential of the TRX Suspension System cheers me up; there are over 200 different exercises that can be done with the TRX and probably nearly as many again that can be done with a little ingenuity. Just think what can be performed using the TRX to provide resistance - rowing and all of the pulling exercises that tone the shoulders and back; leaning forward you can tone the chest muscles and arms; use the TRX to do resisted squats and lunges, which will tone legs and buttocks into a smooth, sleek shape, and use the handles for lat pulldowns to shape those long muscles on the side of the back. Remember; toned lats reduce bra-strap bulge. And that's just for the boys!

These exercises are all done in one plane; add some rotation and you start to work your deep core muscles and strengthen yourself from the inside out.  The potential of the TRX for doing Pilates is jaw dropping!  These are just a few exercises that can be done in a standing position - just imagine the exercises you could do kneeling, seated, or lying prone or supine.  The list is almost endless and as you are not using weights, the potential for injury of muscles and joints is far lower than in other workouts.

The only part of your workout that the TRX exercise system will not provide is the cardio aspect, but all you need for that is an exercise bike or something like a mini trampoline.  If you spend 20 to 30 minutes doing some cardio at a level that makes you hot and sweaty and slightly breathless, and then run through 20 - 30 minutes of exercises using the TRX fitness system, ending with a 5 minute cooldown and stretch (another way of utilising the TRX), then you will have done a full body workout that would make any personal trainer very happy indeed.  And you will have burnt several hundred calories and toned up just about every single muscle in your body, including your deep core and postural muscles that you didn't know you had.

Do this three times a week, eat sensibly and you will see weight loss and a change in your shape within about a month.  And you'll feel great!
